Messier-Bugatti-Dowty (Safran) has signed a contract with Kobe Steel for the supply of Airbus A350 XWB main landing gear forgings. This agreement represents significant new business for both companies and a key milestone for the Airbus A350 XWB program.

Messier-Bugatti-Dowty is developing a new titanium supply through this agreement with an integrated company that has a strong experience in forging titanium.

Kobe Steel is Japan’s leading integrated producer of commercially pure titanium and titanium alloy products. For more than 60 years, Kobe Steel has supplied titanium forgings, sheets and tubes to the aerospace and industrial sectors. Kobe Steel is also one of the major shareholders of Japan Aeroforge, Ltd, established to manufacture large forged parts mainly for the aerospace market. Within the scope of this agreement, the forging operations will be performed at Japan Aeroforge using its newly created 50kt-press.

Vincent Mascré, Chairman and CEO of Messier-Bugatti-Dowty, said, “This agreement is a first step towards an extended collaboration in the future and demonstrates Messier-Bugatti-Dowty’s objective to diversify supply on strategic forgings.”

Junji Kawafuku, Head of the Titanium Division at Kobe Steel, said, “We are proud that Kobe Steel is the first Asian supplier of large titanium forgings to Messier-Bugatti-Dowty. This agreement will further strengthen their supply chain, providing a stable source of forgings for the new Airbus A350.”
